…And Have Nothing To Sell

It’s a fair bet that you’ve paid a ton of your hard-earned cash to find out how to make this magical selling online thing work … and it’s just failed to make you more than a few pennies, if that, right?

Honestly, that’s not your fault.

You will have had rehashed and outdated ideas to work from, much of it from marketers who either are fumbling around in the dark as much as you are

…or, (and it makes me sad and angry to say this, but it’s the truth), from people who are just out to take your money and don’t really care about whether their “widget” or “system” really works as it says on the sales page or not.

I’ve been there more times than I care to count. (That would be embarrassing).

Not only is most of it unnecessary, but a lot of it is, frankly, smoke and mirrors.

Of course I know there’s a bit more to it than that.

As someone once pointed out to me, you may have the best pork sandwiches in the world, but you won’t make any sales at a bar mitzvah!

This was as true in 2003 (when I lost all that money on a cookie cutter coach) as it is now. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it would have been true in 1903 – just without the internet!

1. A mailing list (of people who open and read your messages – because the ones who don’t will never buy from you)
2. Traffic to keep the list growing and fresh.
3. Something to entice them to want to join your list.

Once you have those three things, human nature takes over. (Trust me on that, I trained as a psychotherapist).

People want to know more.
You’re solving a problem for them.

And, honestly, they don’t care who you are. If you can fix some aspect of their lives that they’ve been frustrated by, you’re their hero.

And then they’ll buy from you again and again … as long as you keep in touch and show yourself to be a reasonably decent human being.
